Hello Odom School Park lovers!
We hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather. It’s a great time to visit the park!
Some of our team members, and team members from the other 78744 & 78745 park teams, have been holding meetings and site visits with PARD to discuss “shovel-ready” projects for our parks. We told them what our priorities are and now it’s time to see what’s really possible via whatever funds they allocate our way from the $1.15M Park Block Grant. We’re excited to have PARD’s attention and excited about Odom’s future! We thank Marty Stump and the other PARD staff who have taken the time to visit our parks and hear about our needs.
We just submitted our GAVA Mini-Grant Application for a new bench (on the East side of the track) and 5 new bike racks (throughout the park). We hope these amenities will make the park even more useful and inviting to the community. They will be reviewing our application at their February 2nd Board Meeting.
Have Your Voice Heard
We are currently taking input about what community members would like to see done with the space that will eventually be available when the City’s Aquatics Department officially closes the wading pool at Odom. If you haven’t, please take a moment to give your input here. We’ll pass your great ideas on to the city.
The city has also recently reopened their (more in depth) survey about what neighbors would like to see at Odom School Park. Give them your thoughts here
More Thank Yous
We’d like to thank all the Council Members (and their wonderful staff) that met with us to discuss our parks’ needs in late 2015 and early 2016. Special thanks go to Council Members Garza (and her aid Katherine Nicely), Kitchen (and her aid Ken Craig), Pool, and Tovo. Their support is invaluable and really proves that they care about those in our districts. And thank you to all the GAVA community leaders who helped us effectively lobby for our parks!
We’ll be having our next GAVA-facilitated meeting next Thursday. Check it out!
