Odom Elementary School Park Team updates – exciting news!

Hi Odom School Park lovers!

There are big things happening at the park, so let’s get right to it!

City Park Block Grant
Reminder: This is the $1.15M that the City has to spend on Austin parks before September of this year. The 78744 and 78745 park teams have spent the last few weeks performing site visits with PARD and they are fully aware of all our parks’ needs. We have another meeting with PARD about our parks’ priorities and hope we can convince them to support projects in our parks at the next Open Spaces Committee meeting (2/24/16).

GAVA Mini-Grant
GAVA gave us a mini-grant for a new bench and five new bike racks! We’re super excited about completing our first grant application successfully. We would like to thank GAVA for their strategic and monetary support. We’d also like to thank all the city staff and Odom administration that helped us plan for the use of this grant & Austin Parks Foundation for being our fiscal agent.  We couldn’t have done this alone and we are so grateful! We’ll let you know when the new amenities are installed.

It’s My Park Day
This year we’ll be celebrating all our recent victories and beautifying Odom School Park on It’s My Park Day. Meet at Odom School Park to help plant a butterfly garden and help with park clean up. We’re proud to be one of two Spanish-speaker led IMPD projects in the city this year (English translators will be on site.). All registrants will receive a It’s My Park Day t-shirt and have a great morning improving our park.

Your input counts
We’re still taking input on the future of the Odom School Pool via this survey. Also, the City has reopened their Odom School Park survey (It’s longer, and covers the whole park, as opposed to just the pool.).  Please follow the links and give your opinion. Also, feel free to contact us directly at armadilloparkna@gmail.com with any Odom School Park issues, comments, thoughts, and dreams.
