Now’s your chance to tell City Council to send money to South Austin in order to keep our parks safe. Thanks to your Councilmember, Delia Garza, Parks and Recreation budget allocations for lighting in parks in 78744 and 78745 are on the Councils 2017 budget “concept menu.” Your neighbors have been working with PARD to make sure they understand the lighting needs at Odom School Park and they’ve already started drawing up plans in hopes that the project will get funded. The budget is going to be very tight this year, so now it’s up to us to make sure that all of the Councilmembers make this a priority.
Here are a few ways you can make that happen:
- Attend budget hearings being held August 18th and September 1st at City Hall. Citizen communications mean a lot to them, so the more people who show up to speak on behalf of South Austin parks’ safety and lighting needs the better!
- Email or call all the Councilmembers and the Mayor and explain to them that people would use our parks a lot more if they were lit well and safe.Email all the councilmembers at once here. Find all the City Council phone numbers here.
- Talk to your neighbors and have them call the City Council, as well!
