GOOOOOAAALLLLL!!!!
Soccer is a permanent part of our park now! Odom School Park Team members received an Austin Parks Foundation grant for permanent soccer goals.
Our soccer league is going well and we hope these goals will inspire our budding soccer pros to keep up the good work.apf
Thank you Austin Parks Foundation!
We’ll update you when we know more about their installation.

New Playground AND New Shaded Picnic Area Installation
After our community members advocated for South Austin parks to get some of this year’s Park Block Grant funds, the city sent some funding to Odom School Park. PARD will be renovating the west playscape area (including run-off mitigation). Even more exciting – The Odom School Park Team won an Austin Parks Foundation Community Grant for a new shaded picnic area. It will include 4 picnic tables and lovely sail-shades. This new sitting area will be installed with the new playscape. We can’t thank Austin Parks Foundation enough for supporting our park! We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about the project’s timeline.

More Advocacy
Odom School Park Team members and other park volunteers advocated for safety features in our parks at the City’s recent budget hearings. We know that when people feel safe in parks they are used more frequently and communities become healthier. We want to make our school parks safer by adding lighting and safer track materials. Between lobbying the city for budget allocations and coordinating efforts between PARD and AISD we are hopeful that Odom School Park will see improvements in the near future. Stay tuned here for updates and let us know if you have ideas for solving these important park safety issues. Email us at mizzzlaura@gmail.com if you’d like to help.

Music in the Park
South Austin is known for it’s music scene. And now YOU can make music in the park.
Thank you to Austin City Limits for all the work they do to improve parks in Austin, but especially for their donation of permanent and unique musical instruments to Odom School Park! We are very excited to have these super cool instruments added to the park for all to enjoy. Again, we’ll keep you updated on this project as we learn more.

Learn More About GAVA’s Great WorkGAVA logo
GoAustin!/VamosAustin! (GAVA) helps us make our neighborhood healthy and connected. They have given us the leadership training and grassroots tools and strategies needed to:

  • Bring healthy food to our neighborhood via the Odom Elementary School farm stand and in our corner stores.
  • Improve Odom School Park and Armadillo Park leading to  great increases in park use.
  • Take our traffic and mobility concerns to the City resulting in new sidewalks and ongoing conversations.

The GAVA Coalition meeting is coming up. Join us, other resident leaders, and community partners from 78744 and 78745 to celebrate our successes and learn about ways you can get involved.
