Odom Elementary School Park Committee/Park Adopter Team

Did you know that the land around Odom Elementary is a public, city park (when school is not in session)? It is, and some of your neighbors are working to improve it!

What’s New?
There’s so much going, we don’t know where to start. If you’ve been by the park you know that PARD has completed the new swing set and they’ve started work on the new playscape (funded thanks to our team’s lobbying the city to more equitably fund parks in 78745 and 78744) and the new shaded sitting area (funding by the grant APF awarded our team last year). We are very excitied about these new amenities! We are also excited about our upcoming (June 10th!) park beautification day. Please join us!

Volunteer with us
Everyone is welcome, but we are also in particular need of BILINGUAL (Spanish/English) neighbors, and neighbors with grant writing experience, editing experience, and project management experience.

Meetings
Check our Upcoming Events page for meeting dates. These meetings are being held in conjunction with GAVA (Go Austin/Vamos Austin!) 78745’s Physical Activity Sector Team, which includes other parks in the 78745 area.
Please join us and invite anyone interested in improving park access and usage!

ABOUT THIS TEAM
As some background, some of your neighbors have been working with GoAustin!/VamosAustin! (GAVA)’s Physical Activity Sector to improve this park. GAVA is a coalition of non-profits around town committed to improving 78745’s health by creating more access to physical activity, parks, healthy food, and education. They are teaching us how to go about getting what we need for our park through coordination with the City of Austin, work with other local groups, and grant education. We are happy to announce that, by working with the city, we’ve added mutt mitt stations, trashcans, a park rules sign, and a park ID sign. We’ve also identified bigger park projects. They include: more lighting, additional picnic tables and benches, renovation of the wading pool, soccer field replacement, fitness/exercise equipment, track replacement, and run-off mitigation (via a rain garden!). We are ready to get to work making those dreams happen and could use your help.
